The Windy City

Living only a few hours away from a great city like  Chicago is a true blessing for a day tripper and especially one that loves to take photos. There is something for everyone in the Windy City. It is a great sports town, amazing food from all over the world, museums, the Shedd, Millennium park, Lake Shore drive, etc..It is a center of fashion, art, culture, industry…  I could go on for hours and post hundred of pics from all the years that I have been visiting there. This shot is of one of the must see places if you visit. This is the world famous “Bean” at Millennium park. Millions of visitors from around the world visit this gorgeous sculpture. Very few actually know the real name of the sculpture, it is actually named the Cloud Gate Sculpture and was created by Bristish artist Anish Kapoor. The sculptor said, “What I wanted to do in Millennium Park is make something that would engage the Chicago skyline…so that one will see the clouds kind of floating in, with those very tall buildings reflected in the work. And then, since it is in the form of a gate, the participant, the viewer, will be able to enter into this very deep chamber that does, in a way, the same thing to one’s reflection as the exterior of the piece is doing to the reflection of the city around.”   It is pretty hard to get a good shot of this 33 ton piece of shiny goodness without a million people in the shot, but I guess that is what makes it so special. If you get to Chicago, you have got to visit The Bean and get you photo taken while touching it.

  1. You should definitely get to Chicago, there is something for everyone there. I have never been to Rotterdam, but Chicago gets pretty darn windy. That wind gets a whipping off of Lake Michigan and the tall buildings seem to channel the wind.. It is a great place to visit. Let me know if you come, I will show you around 🙂
