Antelope Canyon is one of my favorite places to visit and to shoot. I see something new each time I visit. THis is an area known as “The Faces” as it looks like two faces facing each other. It looks great in color, but I decided to do a black and white version of it also. Let me know what you think.
I sold a print of this shot to a nice lady located in the United Kingdom today. This shot is very special to me for many reasons. The day I shot it was amazing. I spent the afternoon with the nephew of a Navajo chief, who guided mt through the canyons. These canyons are located on ground that is sacred to the Navajo people. This young man was a very impressive person to say the least. He was approx 20 years old and was born and raised on a reservation. The reservation was very primitive, they did not even have running water. From those humble beginnings, he has graduated college with multiple degrees. He speaks over 15 languages fluently and is now a representative for the Navajo nation that travels the world. He has met and spent time with many of the worlds most powerful leaders, he had just returned from China where he spent 2 weeks representing the great Navajo nation. At one point, this young man began playing a Navajo prayer on his wooden flute with his back arched like the kokopeli that is representative of the south west. The song was so beautiful, it sounded similar to Amazing Grace but definitely its own song. As he played, the other Navajo’s in the canyon stopped and prayed to their gods. I felt very honored to witness and be a part of it. It is a day I will remember forever and I can’t wait to go back. I hope you enjoy the shot as much as I did taking it.
