Thank all of you that have followed along as I hunt, peck and post through my blog infancy 🙂 I am sending wishes of a happy and prosperous new year to all of you and your families. I hope that 2015 is a great year for all of us creative types and that the turmoils of 2014 are behind us. Be safe out there tonight and enjoy the fireworks!
I am missing the Florida Keys a lot lately. Have not bee there in a few years due to a daughter in the Air Force. I used to go every Christmas, but now she has been getting leave to come home for Christmas so i have been staying here. Thought I would post a few of the birds I have photographed to brighten up my evening here in the cold midwest. Thanks for following along, I hope you enjoy them.
This is a house near mine, the lights are fully synced with a local commercial free radio station. I took my grown daughters there tonight, it was quite a show. Reminded me of ole Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation. Hope everyone has the best holiday ever!!! Special shoutout to all our deployed military that don’t get to be with their families tonight and tomorrow.
For many years I spent the 10 days after Christmas in the Florida Keys. Having lived in the midwest my whole life, it was at first kind of weird seeing houses and trees decorated with lights while walking around in shorts and flip flops. I was used to snow and cold weather with my holiday decorations. I had never thought about it before, but Christmas is Christmas no matter what the weather. We would spend the first night driving around and seeing, and photographing, all the holiday goodness. From palm trees all lit up to lights shaped like fish to the numerous manatee yard decorations with Santa hats, we enjoyed them all. I will post a few each night for the next couple of nights. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Since I am trying to fight off the winter doldrums with colorful photos, how about some beautiful birds? I have a lot of respect for birders and bird photographers. Such patience, such dedication.. both of which I am too short of to be good at birding. Although I really never set out to take photos of birds, I do enjoy it when the opportunity pops up. These are a few of the ones I have shot through the years. First one was taken on a boat off of Key Largo in the Florida Keys. The second was taken on Santa Monica beach in California (more shots from Santa Monica to come soon). And the last one was taken in St Louis, Mo at the zoo there. We have a lot of hawks, owls and even bald eagles in my area, so keep following for some raptor pics. I hope you enjoy these that I have posted.
It is a very gloomy day here in central Illinois, Mr Sun hasn’t poked his head through the winter clouds for over a week. Just gray, cold and gloomy 😦 Posting some purple to brighten my day and hopefully yours. It is several months until spring, I hope I have enough photos to get me through the hard times.. hahaha.. Everybody have a great Sunday!!!
Who would have thunk you could see a sunset this glorious in Michigan? The good folks that live in the area probably did, but I had no idea. I was doing some shooting of the Cherry Festival in Traverse City a few years ago and wow.. what a great area. Something for everyone there, excellent vineyards, good restaurants, good fishing… We had a great time. On this day we headed further north to get some tickets to get to Mackinac Island (which there were none available 😦 ). The bridge in the photos is the bridge that goes to the Upper Peninsula. The susnset was amazing, started out with some golden light fading to the reds and oranges you see. On these gloomy winter days, I like to look at my colorful shots to brighten my spirit. Hope you enjoy them.
A few years ago , one of my daughters wanted to play around with my camera. She had seen some shots like these online and wanted to figure out how to do it. We played around with it for a few hours until we figured out how it is done. Some of the people that are doing these make some specialized shutter triggers and fancy setups, Ours was pretty simple, a glass bowl, water, food coloring and an eye dropper. Camera was on a tripod set at as fast of shutter speed as we could get with the light we had.We tried different food colorings, milk, etc for different effects… Had a lot of fun, spent some valuable time with my daughter and ended up with some fun shots.
